PASIR MAS: The Education Ministry is considering a proposal to conduct the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) exams outside of the monsoon season.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the matter will be discussed and reviewed periodically.
"We will consider this proposal as it is one of the suggestions we have received. Perhaps we can look into it, as the current SPM schedule is during the end of the year when floods occur.
"We will take this into account and will review it from time to time, as it reflects the concern of the public," she said at a press conference after visiting the Pasir Mas district education office today.
According to earlier reports, 5,377 SPM candidates were affected by floods in three states, Kelantan, Kedah, and Terengganu.
Following the flood disaster, various parties have requested for the exam to be postponed.
A total of 402,956 SPM candidates will begin the written examination sessions from Jan 2 to Feb 6.
In a previous statement, the ministry said the candidates will begin the exam with the Malay Language Oral Examination, scheduled from Dec 2 to 5, followed by the Science Practical Examination from Dec 9 to 12, and the English Language Oral Examination from Dec 16 to 19.
Additionally, the Malay and English Listening Tests are scheduled for Dec 31, with the Written Examination set to take place from Jan 21 to Feb 6 next year.
All candidates will sit for the exams at 3,337 examination centres across the country, with 126,636 exam staff appointed to ensure the smooth management and administration of the exams.
