No hidden taxes on RON97 and diesel prices, govt clarifies

KUALA LUMPUR: There are no hidden taxes imposed on the retail prices for RON97 petrol and diesel, the Dewan Rakyat heard today.

Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying said the weekly retail prices for petrol and diesel are set through the managed floating mechanism and are not based on the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM).

"There are no hidden charges. In line with the implementation of diesel subsidies (rationalisation) in June, the weekly retail pricing of diesel is conducted through the managed floating mechanism.

"We also monitor the diesel prices closely and ensure that the rates set by the government are according to the standards," she said during the question and answer session in Dewan Rakyat, today.

Lim said this in response to a supplementary question from Muhammad Fawwaz Mohamad Jan (PN-Permatang Pauh) regarding allegations that the government imposes hidden taxes on RON97 petrol and diesel prices through the APM formula.
