Snake encounters rise as flood victims return to homes in Kelantan

PASIR MAS: The Kelantan Civil Defence has advised flood victims to be extra cautious when returning to their homes after their stay at relief centres.

State Civil Defence Force director, Colonel Mohd Adzhar Mujab said this was because their cool homes would attract snakes.

"Snakes like to hide in cooler areas and during this rainy season, the reptiles will find whatever cooler place to hide.

"Many residents spotted the snakes inside their homes while cleaning the places after returning from the relief centres.

"Therefore, l would like to remind the public to be more careful," he said.

He added besides the house, snakes would normally hide themselves under bricks, bushes near houses.

The state Civil Defence Force caught a record number of snakes over the past two weeks, he said.

Meanwhile, some 20 volunteers from the state Umno Youth movement received a nasty shock when they found a snake while cleaning a Kemas kindergarten at Kampung Serungga here today.

Pasir Mas youth member Mohd Zahir Abdul Rahman said the tiny reptile was a water snake.

"It is only small snake but many young women were screaming after they saw the snake crawling near the school's wall.
