SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government will donate RM500,000 to Kelantan to support recovery efforts following severe flooding at the end of last month.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the proposal will be tabled at the State Council Meeting this Wednesday for final approval.
"This aid is intended to facilitate the repair of infrastructure and other essential facilities.
"We have the Selangor Prihatin Fund, which can be allocated to areas affected by disasters, even outside the state," he said during the launch of the Madani Ihsan Squad Disaster Relief Mission: Post-Flood Aid from Selangor to Kelantan at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Building today.
The state previously mobilised the Madani Ihsan Squad, comprising local authority members and volunteers, to assist with post-flood operations in Kelantan.
Amirudin said the team consists of 130 members and 45 vehicles, including water tankers and Roll-On/Roll-Off (RoRo) trucks, to carry out cleaning operations from tomorrow until Thursday.
He added that the squad, which includes KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM), will focus on cleaning public infrastructure and the homes of affected residents.
"The team will assist in cleaning efforts in critical areas, particularly public facilities such as mosques and suraus, based on guidance from the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma).
"In addition to manpower, we are providing food baskets and cleaning supplies to victims through the MBI Foundation.
"The estimated cost of this mission is RM400,000, funded by various contributors, including KDEBWM and local authorities," he added.
Meanwhile, KDEB Waste Management managing director Datuk Ramli Mohd Tahir said they are prepared to deploy additional assets and manpower if needed.
