KUANTAN: Police stations across the state capital will hold defence drills to enhance preparedness and evaluate standard operating procedures in facing security threats.
Kuantan police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said besides ensuring officers and personnel were ready to handle crises, the exercises would also improve their firearm handling skills and reduce response time.
"The exercises will ensure all eight police stations in Kuantan have a well-trained team that can be deployed if there are attacks.
"All personnel must be aware of their responsibilities and positions in case of an emergency.
"The exercises will replicate real scenarios, giving officers a chance to test their planning for effective response.
"All police station chiefs have to strengthen defence at their stations and give exposure to new officers who report for duty."
He said this after attending defence drills at the Gebeng police station here today.
Wan Mohd Zahari said the drills have to be held at least twice a year to reduce response time to attacks.
"I hope other police stations will conduct its own drills too, maybe on a smaller scale.
"All officers must be well versed with procedures when facing potential threats and should never take such matters lightly."
In July, Pahang police introduced tactical shooting training to strengthen safety at police stations and improve firearms handling.
The measure was adopted in response to the attack on the Ulu Tiram police station in Johor earlier this year.
