Newborn abandoned at food court just hours after birth

BATU PAHAT: A baby girl was abandoned just hours after her birth at a food court in Yong Peng early yesterday morning.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani, said that a woman preparing to open her stall discovered the infant wrapped in a batik sarong and towel inside a box at 5.30am.

The newborn, with her umbilical cord still attached, had been left without any documents or notes.

It is believed she was born just hours earlier.

Police responded promptly, rescuing the baby, who appeared to be in good health with no physical injuries, and took her to Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital.

The case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code, which deals with the abandonment of a child under 12 years of age.
