ARAU: A 42-year-old man, believed to be mentally unstable, was arrested by the police to assist in investigations into a viral video showing a man breaking decorative flowerpots along the walkway outside Istana Arau.
In the clip, the man can be seen knocking over more than five decorative pots placed along the sidewalk in the area.
It is understood that the incident occurred around noon on Friday.
District police chief Superintendent Ahmad Mohsin Md Rodi said police acted on information from the public and managed to track down the suspect.
"We received information from the public about the incident and tracked down the suspect before detaining him.
"When questioned, the suspect admitted to knocking over the flowerpots," he said today.
Ahmad Mohsin added that checks showed the suspect tested negative for drugs.
However, he has two prior records under Sections 324, 323, and 506 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation.
"The suspect has since been released on police bail and will be referred to the Psychiatry Department at Tuanku Fauziah Hospital, Kangar, for treatment," he added.
The incident went viral on social media on Saturday, showing the man intentionally damaging flowerpots.
The man has also reportedly been spotted wandering around Arau town and nearby areas.
