BUKIT MERTAJAM: A man was arrested by the police after punching and hitting the head of a restaurant worker with a trash can lid in an incident at Machang Bubok here, which went viral on social media.
The man was detained after the police detected a one-minute and 36-second video uploaded on Facebook, showing the individual being assaulted at the restaurant around 2.45am the day before yesterday.
Seberang Perai Tengah district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Helmi Aris, said the suspect was found to have punched the victim's face and struck their head with a trash can lid.
"The suspect was arrested after a report was lodged and he has since been remanded," he added.
