Two Puspakom staff could be referred to MACC if probe uncovers 'integrity issues'

KUALA LUMPUR: The two Puspakom staff who allegedly approved a vehicle which was later deemed unsafe by the Road Transport Department (RTD), would be referred to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) if the authorities find evidence of wrongdoing involving integrity.

RTD senior enforcement director Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said this after the two were summoned for questioning by the department yesterday.

The two were hauled up following RTD's surprise checks on Puspakom centres nationwide on Monday.

"They were summoned to the RTD headquarters in Putrajaya from 10.30am till 4pm.

"We are currently preparing the investigation papers. Our investigations typically focus on three elements: enforcement, technical aspects, and integrity. If we identify any wrongdoing, we will take action.

"If we uncover cases involving integrity, misconduct or corruption, we will escalate the investigation papers or matters to the MACC," he told New Straits Times when contacted.

He said if there were any violations in other aspects, the cases would be forwarded to the RTD director-general and the Transport Minister for further action.

Kifli said the incident from Wangsa Maju Puspakom was the only one so far.

He also said that the department has zero tolerance and will take firm action regarding the matter.

"We want to ensure that vehicles on the roads are in good condition and safe, in order to protect all road users," he said.
