UM denies lecturer suspended for sexual harassment still on campus

KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Malaya (UM) has denied allegations that a lecturer suspended for allegedly sexually harassing students has been visiting the campus.

In a statement, UM said no directive permitting the lecturer to access campus grounds had been issued.

"Our investigation (into the claims) found no evidence or witnesses to substantiate the matter."

The university also reminded the suspended lecturer to comply with the terms of the suspension, including the prohibition of campus visits.

"UM remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of everyone on campus, particularly our students," it said.

Previously, a UM student alleged that the lecturer had been seen on campus despite being suspended.

Last week, UM suspended the lecturer pending an investigation into claims that he had sent inappropriate nude photos to students.

The UM Feminism Club (UMFC) had earlier called on the university's management to tighten its sexual harassment policies.

This followed allegations that the lecturer shared nude photos with a student and that the images were printed and displayed on campus as a warning to other students, before being removed shortly after.
