485 households receive RM1k cash aid under Ihsan Madani programme

RANTAU PANJANG: A total of 485 heads of households received RM1,000 compassionate cash aid (BWI) under the Ihsan Madani programme today.

The recipients, from several villages here, were among the thousand flood victims in Kelantan affected by the recent floods.

They received the BWI from the Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, in a ceremony held at SK Rantau Panjang 1.

Also present at the ceremony were Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat and Kelantan State Federal Development director Jasri Kasim.

Recipient Mohd Maszwan Mustar thanked the federal government for the assistance, saying that it would ease the burden faced by flood victims like him.

"Many of us were badly affected by the recent floods and until now, some of us have yet to recover from the disaster. With the money, we can buy new items such as kitchen appliances that were destroyed by the floods," said the 43-year-old father of six from Kampung Dangar.

Former labourer Mohd Saufi Loman, 67, said he would save the money for his daily expenses.

"I will use some of the money to buy daily essential items for me and my children," said the father of four from Kampung Kedai Lama.

The flood situation in Kelantan is almost back to normal with only 31 evacuees taking shelter at one relief centre in Pasir Mas today.
