Kedah to disburse RM1,000 cash aid for households affected by floods

ALOR STAR: The Kedah government will distribute RM1,000 cash aid to each family relocated to temporary flood relief centres (PPS), from Monday.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said the cash aid distribution will be coordinated through the Disaster Operations Control Centre in each affected district.

He said the federal government's RM1,000 aid, distributed through the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), will be channelled through the Kedah State Development Office to the flood evacuees.

"Up to 2pm today, 29 flood relief centres have been activated across seven districts — Kota Setar with eight PPS, Pokok Sena (four), Pendang (three), Kubang Pasu (seven), Bandar Baharu (one), Kulim (three) and Kuala Muda (three).

"A total of 3,835 victims from 1,137 families are taking shelter at the relief centres," he said today.

Sanusi described the floods as a test from Allah and called on the people to pray for the situation to improve and for all hardships to be eased.

He also reminded the flood victims to comply with the authorities' instructions to relocate to relief centres for their own safety.

"Failure to comply may result in victims being excluded from the aid list. Police officers will be stationed at each centre to assist victims in filing reports."

Sanusi said all state and district Disaster Operations Command Centres will operate 24 hours throughout the disaster period to monitor and oversee the situation.

"Parents, please keep a close watch on your children to prevent any untoward incident that could lead to injury or death," he added.
