Couple's arrest leads to seizure of RM2.4m worth of drugs

ISKANDAR PUTERI: More than RM2.4 million worth of drugs were seized in recent raids following the arrest of a couple in Mutiara Rini here.

The man, 31, and woman, 33, tested positive for ketamine and benzodiazepines, and both have drug-related criminal records.

They are believed to be members of a syndicate trafficking drugs from a vehicle owned by one of the suspects' parents.

State police chief Datuk M. Kumar said today narcotic officers arrested the couple in a car in a parking lot, where drugs were found in the vehicle.

They then raided two homes in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah, 5km from where they were arrested.

Kumar said the couple allegedly started trafficking drugs from their vehicle in public carparks in October.

He said this at the Johor police contingent headquarters.

Police seized over 14 grams of ecstasy in powder form and 51 pills, two packets of ketamine, and methamphetamine, with the street value of RM 2,412,870.

He said the seized drugs could potentially be used by 72,195 drug addicts.

Police obtained a seven-day remand for the couple. If convicted, they face the death penalty or life imprisonment.
