Eight arrested for street racing on New Year's eve

JOHOR BARU: Police detained eight motorcyclists in an operation against street racing in the state capital on New Year's Eve.

The men, aged between 18 and 20, were arrested for performing dangerous stunts on public roads, endangering themselves and other road users.

The Johor Baru (South) police district's Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division operation, codenamed 'Op Ambang Tahun Baru 2025', was aimed at reckless road users and illegal racing.

District police chief, Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat, said the operations between 5pm on Dec 31 last year and 5am the next day saw officers inspecting 91 vehicles and 132 individuals.

It led to 18 motorcycles being seized, 36 summonses issued, and the arrest of the eight motorcyclists. Summonses were issued for various offences, including riding without a license and illegal vehicle modifications.
