Police probing death of girl whose neck was caught under folding table

NIBONG TEBAL: Police are investigating the case of a 6-year-old girl who died after her neck was trapped under a table at her home here yesterday (Jan 1).

Seberang Prai Selatan district police chief Superintendent Chong Boo Khim said: "A post-mortem was conducted this morning, and the cause of death is cerebral edema due to asphyxia (brain swelling caused by lack of oxygen), with no criminal elements involved."

Chong said the victim was found trapped under the table by her older brother about 4.15pm.

She was rushed to Parit Buntar Hospital by her mother.

She was pronounced dead at 12.30am today (Jan 2).

It was reported that a 6-year-old girl was believed to have been killed after getting trapped in the legs of a foldable table at a house in Taman Seri Putra yesterday.

The incident happened while the girl was playing alone behind the house.

Her mother and siblings, aged 9 and 10, were in the house at the time.

They realised something was amiss only when they no longer heard the girl making any noise and went to check on her.
