JEMPOL: A mother died while her 4-year-old son was injured after the motorcycle they were riding was involved in an accident at the intersection of block 20, Felda Palong Lima, at around 6.40pm yesterday.
Jempol district police chief, Superintendent Hoo Chang Hook, said the incident is believed to have occurred when the 43-year-old victim was riding a Yamaha Nouvo motorcycle on her way from Jalan Besar Felda Palong Lima to her home.
He said that upon arriving at the scene and as the victim was turning right at the intersection, a Yamaha 135LC motorcycle ridden by a 13-year-old boy approached from behind and overtook the victim's motorcycle, leading to a collision.
"As a result of the accident, the victim, who sustained serious head injuries, was taken to the Felda Palong Four, Five, and Six Health Clinic but was pronounced dead at 7.30pm.
"The victim's son sustained shoulder injuries, while the teenager suffered head and facial injuries and was sent to Tuanku Ampuan Najihah Hospital," he said.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
"Police are asking witnesses to the incident to contact the investigating officer, Inspector Yasmin Beevee Mohamed Ali, at 012-9434222 to assist in the investigation," he said.
