Bentong ravine crash: 2nd victim identified by family

BENTONG: The lorry assistant who died alongside the driver in the tragic accident at Km42 of the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway near Bukit Tinggi has been identified by his family.

District police chief Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar confirmed that the victim was 40-year-old Shamsol Yaakob.

"Shamsol's family from Taiping, Perak, identified his remains at the Bentong Hospital. The lorry driver, identified earlier, was Norazuat Mokhtar," Zaiham said in a text message to the media today.

The fatal crash occurred at 8.50pm yesterday when Norazuat, 39, was driving a trailer loaded with scrap metal from Bukit Kemuning, Klang, Selangor, to Kuantan.

He is believed to have lost control of the wheel before the vehicle plunged into a 20m-deep ravine, killing both men instantly.

Earlier today, police were reported saying they have yet to identify the individual who was killed alongside Norazuat in the vehicle.
