357,867 in Sarawak have registered for Kenyalang Gold Card

KUCHING: A total of 357,867 Sarawakians, aged 60 and above with the status "K" on their Mykad, have registered for the Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) up to the end of last year.

The KGC enables them to get discounts on merchandise and services from registered vendors and strategic partners.

State Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said Kuching had the highest number of cardholders with 101,394, followed by Miri (48,675), Sibu (36,929) and Kapit (22,408).

"There are 1,035 vendors registered with the ministry, including 300 in Kuching," she told reporters after handing over a vendor partnership certificate to Jen Lim Convenience Store at the Kuching International Airport here today.

Fatimah said the dependants of KGC holders could also apply for compassionate aid within 120 days from the death of the holders.

She said business owners who wanted to register as vendors could do so manually or online, adding that application forms could be obtained from divisional or district offices of the Welfare Department.

Fatimah said online applications could be made at www.kenyalanggold.com.
