JOHOR BHARU: A video of a "pontianak" sighting captured by an auxiliary police officer has gone viral on social media.
The video has since been viewed more than 3 million times.
"My intention (of posting the video) is just to share my experience and warn people not to be too afraid or obsessed with such things," said TikTok user who only wanted to be known as Ikhmal.
The 29-year-old got instant attention when he shared the video of the sighting.
Netizens had different responses to the video, some believing the sighting while others questioned the veracity of the recording.
Ikhmal insisted the sighting around 2am was genuine and that he was on duty with a colleague in a patrol care when he heard a weird noise coming from a thick undergrowth at a restricted area.
"My colleague and I drove closer to the area. That is when I saw the pontianak and took a video with my phone."
"It is up to the viewer whether to believe or not, plus why should I make up something that is not true?"
Ikhmal, who has been working in the area for more than eight years now, said he has had many similar experiences.
However, it was the first time he saw a pontianak.
"It is quite common to hear weird noises, especially at night and early in the morning, when we are on duty at the control post.
"Even elderly people have shared their experiences of similar sightings because this place was once an oil palm plantation," Ikhmal said.
He hoped that the video-sharing would be taken in a positive note as his intention is not to scare anyone.
"We hope it will not discourage anyone, especially those who are interested in this field of security," he added.
