KUALA LUMPUR: A teacher in Sarawak's remote interior has gone the extra mile to ensure his students have access to the internet by buying a Starlink device for the class.

It was revealed that teacher, known as Cikgu Izzat, had dipped into his personal savings to obtain the Starlink device, a selfless act that garnered widespread attention on social media.

The heartwarming incident was captured and shared on TikTok by user @amoimorni, showcasing the teacher's elation as he received the starter kit for the innovative internet solution.

It was reported that the teacher's motivation behind obtaining the Starlink internet device stemmed from a desire to enhance the learning experience of his students in remote and underserved areas, where reliable internet access is often a challenge.

In a separate video posted on the same platform, the teacher expressed that his acquisition of the Starlink device was aresult of his independent initiative, devoid of external assistance.

Nevertheless, he extended gratitude to the government for facilitating the introduction of Starlink technology to the country.

"We took the initiative to procure it ourselves. Yet, credit must be attributed to the officials that brought Starlink to Malaysia. This move is poised to greatly enhance our access to quality internet," the teacher noted.

Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil previously highlighted the competitive pricing offered by Starlink for satellite internet services, emphasising its affordability relative to other similar services available in the nation.

The government's endorsement of Starlink aligns with its commitment to bridge the digital divide in remote regions.
