KUALA LUMPUR: A dramatic morning road rage scene unfolded on Jalan Syed Putra near the Federal Highway two days ago, leaving netizens in shock.
A viral video shared by Huey Tze Lai on her Facebook yesterday, recorded by a dash camera following the events, began with a motorcyclist in an all black attire attempting to engage with the driver of a silver car on his left, with hostile hand gestures and deliberately slowing down by the side of the car.
About 10 seconds later, as the silver car surged forward, it abruptly switched lanes, cutting in front of the motorcyclist in a heart-stopping manner, leaving the motorcyclist in its wake.
The motorbike had no time to prevent colliding with the rear of the silver car when it abruptly stopped in the middle of the road.
The impact was jarring, sending the motorcyclist sprawling onto the road.
The dash camera, mounted in the following car, documented the entire sequence of events.
Huey Tze Lai, the owner of the dash camera and the individual who originally posted the video, recounted the incident on her Facebook page.
She speculated that the motorcyclist might have been reprimanded by the driver of the silver car for using the bus lane which is marked with a yellow line.
The video ignited a barrage of comments from netizens who were equally shocked by the morning road rage episode.
After the crash, Huey Tze Lai rushed to offer assistance to the injured motorcyclist.
"I went and checked on the motorcyclist and he told me that he was not able to move his leg. His chin was gushing blood non-stop," Huey Tze wrote in her post.
She further added the motorcyclist had then updated his condition via text, saying that he received treatment for his broken leg at the hospital and that he was in recovery.
Huey Tze urged road users to install dash cameras in their vehicles as that would mean supporting evidence at their fingertips should they be involved in a car accident or witness one.
She also expressed gratitude for the individuals who had stepped forward to help following the accident.
Netizens echoed her sentiments, emphasising the need for vigilance and responsible driving practices on the road.
"Do not know what happened between the driver and the rider, but endangering people's lives is wrong", said KenT Chow.
User Lucky Lee commented that a full video on the incident is needed, "to understand the context and details leading up to this, please provide the earlier segments. Without that information, it is difficult to make a judgment based solely on these brief seconds."
Meanwhile, police said they had not received any reports on this accident to date.
