KUALA LUMPUR: A video capturing a man smoking at a petrol station has ignited anger among social media users.
Posted by @Cool_Wannabe82 on X (formerly Twitter), the video shows a bus driver smoking while refuelling the vehicle at a petrol station in Muallim, Perak.
It is believed that after refuelling, the driver also disposed of the cigarette he had smoked within the gas station area.
The caption questioned the driver's actions, emphasising the potential harm to both himself and the bus passengers.
At the time of writing, the post garnered more than 369,700 views with netizens expressing frustration over the bus driver's action.
A comment from @CTOkau said: "This brother (owner of the video) must lack knowledge in fuel combustion. Diesel is not flammable like petrol or kerosene. However, this uncle is also wrong because the gas station is a no smoking area."
"Gas stations are non-smoking areas. It doesn't matter if you fill it with petrol or kerosene, he even throws cigarettes in the nearby area, what's wrong with this man," commented @JitKoi62.
Another user @qalroslan stated "diesel doesn't easily catch on fire like petrol, but it's still wrong"
"It's over uncle. He confirm has to lose his job, because his video has gone viral but that's his own fault too. There should be citizens there to advise him," said @MohdSyukrie19.
In addition, the Control of Tobacco Use Regulations 2004 impose a fine of up to RM10,000 and up to two years of imprisonment on anyone caught smoking in prohibited areas.
NST has reached out to the bus company for comments.
