MENTAKAB: A woman, believed to be a victim of a snatch theft, was found dead inside a drain at a housing area here on Sunday.
A video of the victim being lifted out of the drain has been circulating on social media, drawing public anger towards the culprits.
The video showed a group of people assisting policemen to lift the victim's body from the drain to the kerb, was posted together with a photo of the deceased lying inside a monsoon drain, with her hair band by the side of the drain.
The woman was found unconscious and bleeding from the forehead inside a drain believed to be located in a housing area in Mentakab.
Details of the incident are still unclear at the time of writing but the post on X has been viewed over 700,000 times and received more than 200 comments.
Netizens mostly urged stricter laws to be enforced and said the public should not feel pity or sorry for criminals engaging in snatch theft.
Among the comments were from @AzaziahZara wrote: "If I saw a snatch theif, I'm sure to run him over. My mom was a victim and so was I. I even had a knife put to my neck. I hope these criminals will pay their karma in hell."
Another used @Pengesanpenipu said this was murder, not a snatch thieft.
Then @Uzerxdenama wrote: "But the problem with Malaysia is when we really crash into a snatch thief, we would end up getting into trouble with the law, as if we are the bigger criminal. No doubt there are laws and rules in the country but if the enforcement is weak, then the public have to take matters into their own hands. Like in this case."
The New Straits Times has also reached out to the state police department for more information on the case.
