KUALA LUMPUR: A recent video of a woman rescuing a cat believed to have been abandoned on a highway has captured the hearts of many a Malaysian.
The nearly 90-second video clip posted on TikTok by @dianacatstudio shows a stranded white cat being rescued from a busy highway.
She said the area near the highway, which is adjacent to a forest, might be used as a dumping ground for unwanted pets due to its isolated location, noting that there were frequent reports of animals being knocked down there.
The video shows the frightened cat immediately jumping into the carrier brought by the rescuer.
The cat was then brought to a cage, where a few other cats were placed and given food and water.
The woman emphasised the importance of responsible pet ownership, highlighting that animals are not toys to be discarded when one grows tired of playing with them.
She also expressed hope that the situation was not a case of abandonment and warned that neglecting animals is a serious issue with consequences.
The video received widespread praise from netizens, who thanked the rescuer for her kind and compassionate actions.
"May you be blessed with abundance. Thank you for helping this cute cat," wrote Fatyn.
Another user, Aliesa, wrote: "Thank you, sister. May you always be blessed with abundance and may all your affairs be eased. Aamiin, Allahumma Aamiin."
User Aqish, meanwhile, said she cried when she watched the video.
Many took issue with the person who had abandoned the cat, if indeed it was abandoned.
