#NSTviral: Zoo Negara survives recent flash floods, all animals safe [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: Zoo Negara experienced another round of floods on Tuesday but fortunately this time, none of the animals escaped.

A video of the animals in captivity at their respective enclosures and the flood situation at the animal sanctuary was posted by the zoo's deputy president Datuk Rosly @ Rahmat Ahmat Lana, and has since gone viral.

In the video posted on his TikTok account, Rosly was seen walking around the zoo, wading through the flood waters to make sure all the animals were safe.

He was also seen feeding the capybara and the resident cat at one of the enclosures before he was heard saying no capybara or 'oyen' went missing this time.

Last year around the same time, on Oct 18, Zoo Negara faced a similar flood and one capybara and a cat called 'Oyen' had briefly escaped from its enclosure.

Staff went looking for the animals high and low and finally managed to locate them within the premises.

During the recent floods, two teams of firemen had also arrived at the zoo premises to assist, in case the rain continued pouring and the flooding became worse.

This video which has so far been viewed over 72,000 times has also received almost 200 comments, mostly inquiring about the safety of Oyen and other animals.

One of them said, "Oyen must have been better prepared to face the floods this time, since it already had experience from last year".

Another comment from Cherry said the government should invest in relocating the zoo to a better and safer location since floods were becoming a regular problem.

Many of the other netizens mostly expressed relief that all the animals were safe and wished the zoo and staff there well.

The video was also shared over 800 times on TikTok.
