PENANG: A TikTok video capturing a lifeguard's rapid response to save drowning children at Hard Rock Hotel Penang has amassed more than three million views.
TikTok user @stapagonjeng inadvertently filmed the dramatic rescue while recording family members on the water slides. The footage shows the lifeguard sprinting with outstretched arms to catch a struggling child in the pool.
"I was filming Stapa and my children playing when the Hard Rock staff member dashed to rescue the child from drowning. It was powerful to witness," @stapagonjeng wrote.
The viral clip has attracted 68,400 likes and numerous commendations for the lifeguard's professionalism and vigilance.
"Hard Rock staff maintain excellent pool surveillance. I have stayed multiple times," said user Syira Shahar.
Several commenters defended @stapagonjeng's focus on filming their family, noting the difficulty in monitoring the entire pool area simultaneously.
"The person filming mentioned they were recording their kids playing. They are focused on their family, how could they notice the drowning child? Those who criticised did not watch thoroughly," said user Ariffrifqie17.
The incident has sparked discussion about pool safety, with user Luna questioning whether height restrictions exist for children in the area.
