KUALA LUMPUR: A video of a graduate delivering a speech at his convocation thanking his grandmother has deeply moved many people.
In a TikTok video uploaded by Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), the graduate, Mohamad Solehin Zulkarnain, in his speech after receiving the Chancellor's Award, thanked his grandmother for raising him and his brother.
Solehin and his brother were raised by their grandparents, with help from their uncles and aunts, after their parents divorced when he was three months old.
"Assalamualaikum, Opah (another name for grandmother) and my beloved family. Thank you for all the sacrifices made by you, the late grandpa, and the entire family in raising and educating me and my brother, helping us grow and succeed. This success is not just mine, but ours. If grandpa were still here, he would surely be the happiest.
"Opah, this is the most valuable gift I can give in celebration of your 78th birthday this month," he said, causing his grandmother, as well as those attending the convocation, to be overcome with emotion and unable to hold back their tears.
In the comment section, netizens praised Solehin for his speech, noting his gratitude towards his grandparents and family for raising him and his brother, and wished him the best in his future endeavours.
