KUALA LUMPUR: A video of a car tailgating an ambulance has triggered widespread criticism on social media, raising safety concerns.
Netizens are questioning whether the driver was a family member of someone inside the ambulance or simply a stranger.
In a TikTok clip shared by user @gpmambulance, who works for the ambulance service, the camera captures a white vehicle closely following the ambulance.
The car even activates its hazard lights as it weaves through traffic, which is already making way for both the ambulance and the tailgating vehicle.
The video's caption criticises the driver's selfish behaviour, stating that such actions not only jeopardise the safety of other road users but also show a lack of consideration.
It also notes that the incident occurred on Dec 1 at 5.15pm on the Shah Alam Federal Highway heading towards Klang, located south of the capital, Kuala Lumpur.
The video has drawn significant attention, amassing over 166,300 views and 2,300 likes, with many users voicing their concerns about road safety and denouncing the driver's reckless actions.
User @ctzarinaa_ commented that even if the driver were a family member, following closely behind an ambulance is "very dangerous," while @azwansobri suggested reporting the incident to the police due to the car's "reckless and dangerous" driving.
@yaminyusop shared a personal experience, stating that when he was injured in a motorcycle accident and taken by ambulance, his family members did not tailgate but simply asked the ambulance workers which hospital he was being taken to.
They arrived 15 minutes later, emphasising that "there is no excuse to follow (behind an ambulance)."
