#NSTviral: Customer gets quarter-filled drink after requesting 'no ice'

KUALA LUMPUR: A TikTok user recently expressed shock after receiving a drink that was only a quarter full when they requested no ice at a popular restaurant chain.

The video, shared by user @ariymadri, showcased the unusual experience, which they claimed was the first time they encountered such a situation despite regularly requesting drinks without ice.

The incident has sparked discussions online, as many customers typically assume that requesting no ice may slightly reduce the drink's quantity but not to such an extent.

"The response I got from the staff was disappointing. They said, 'That's how it is. You don't want ice, right?'" the TikTok user recounted in the video.

While the customer clarified in the comments section that they were not upset over the reduced drink portion, they expressed dissatisfaction with the employee's curt response.

The video, which was uploaded on Monday and has garnered over 384,000 views, had netizens debating the practice of serving drinks with significantly reduced portions when customers opt out of ice.

A user in the comment section claiming to be a former employee at the restaurant franchise clarified that cold drinks ordered without ice are typically served in smaller portions.

"This is due to the drink being poured directly from a machine which is very sweet, requiring ice to balance the taste," says user @Qis.

"If it's made using a machine, nothing can be done because the portions are pre-measured.

"It's different if we mix it manually, as adjustments can still be made even though there are standard operating procedures. Staff should inform customers about how much drink they'll receive," says user @Reinnn.

Others also advised the video uploader to order a hot drink to get a full cup.
