KUALA LUMPUR: DAP said today the party will comply with the Registrar of Societies’ (RoS) directive to conduct fresh polls for its Central Executive Committee (CEC).
Party adviser Lim Kit Siang, however, said the CEC re-election, which will be based on the 2012 delegates list, was “ridiculous”.
“We are not afraid to carry out the re-election. We are still going to have it in order to comply with the RoS' directive.
“But having it based on 2012 delegate list is ridiculous because we are living in 2017.
“If that is what RoS wants then we have to comply,” he said at the DAP's Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house here today.
On Friday, the party has given in to the RoS demand for it to conduct fresh polls, following claims of irregularities in its 2013 CEC re-election.
The party earlier said it was willing to conduct the re-election of its office bearers, but “under protest” to show disagreement with RoS’ claims of its irregularities in the party’s 2013 re-election.
The re-election will be held during a special congress as stipulated in the party’s constitution.
