SEREMBAN: To monitor the running of DAP’s central executive committee (CEC) re-election, DAP should appoint independent audit firms that are free from any conflict of interests.
Former DAP Taman Bukit Emas secretary S Vijayan said the party’s move in appointing an auditor as announced previously did not go down well among grassroots members.
“We understand that the firm has links with DAP leaders, which makes it unfit to become the independent observer for the CEC. We have proof, but at the moment, it can’t be disclosed,” he said.
He said CEC re-election, directed by the Registrar of Societies (RoS), should be fair and just.
"Appointing an audit firm which has links with the party will not serve its purpose. There are many other independent firms out there that can be appointed," he said today.
Vijayan said grassroot members also disagreed with the selection of the firm as the decision was made by "unlawful" DAP leaders.
DAP last week gave in to RoS’ directive to hold a fresh poll for its CEC but it was understood that the party will be appointing PKF Accountants and Business Advisers as an independent auditor to monitor and handle the re-election process.
Commenting further, Vijayan said to ensure that the CEC will be conducted transparently, it was crucial that the appointment of an audit firm should also be approved by all members.
"We want the DAP to follow the grassroots requirements by appointing audit firms like Deloite, Price Waterhouse Coopers or Ernst & Young," he said.
He also urged DAP to stop giving excuses and expedite the CEC as directed by ROS.
Meanwhile, Vijayan also questioned the actions of all DAP State Assemblymen (DUN), MPs and lawmakers who have been keeping mum and refused to fix the situation following the unlawful CEC in 2012.
