PM Najib close to the hearts of Sarawakians, says CM

KUCHING: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has displayed strong commitment in bringing development and progress to Sarawak throughout his nine years in office.

In saying this, Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Abang Openg said this was proven by Najib’s willingness in allowing the state government to acquire the Bakun Hydroelectric Plant from the federal government.

He also said the ongoing RM14 billion Pan Borneo Highway project is a reflection of Najib’s desire to transform Sarawak.

“Since taking office, Najib has visited Sarawak 59 times at 126 locations, including areas in the interior.

“He never came empty handed. There are always (announcements of) approved allocations and this proves his commitment to balance the development of this state with other states,” the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu’s (PBB) president said.

Abang Johari said this during the opening of PBB’s 14th annual general assembly, which was officiated by Najib at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching here today.

He added that Najib’s sincerity in helping the state made him very close to the hearts of Sarawakians.

“In fact, he also laid the foundation for efforts to return some of Sarawak’s rights that were stipulated in the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

“For the past nine years, Najib has implemented a slew of socio-economic and development transformations. This is in stark contrast to a (former) prime minister who ruled for 22 years.”

Abang Johari also gave his assurance to Najib that Sarawak would fully support the prime minister in the upcoming 14th General Election.

“In the last state election, PBB successfully won all the seats we contested. I give my assurance that we will repeat this feat in GE14.

“I give my assurance that we will deliver an A+ result to Barisan Nasional and I am confident that with that result, Sarawak will remain close to the prime minister’s heart,” he said. -- Reporting by
