KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s richest man Tan Sri Robert Kuok is akin to “one who bites the hand which fed him”.
Barisan Nasional secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said Kuok seemed to have forgotten his roots as he appeared unappreciative towards the support rendered by Barisan Nasional government.
“That is the problem with people nowadays. He is not the only one, but there is also another former (leader) who has forgotten about the same thing (government support).
“Back then, we supported and assisted them to ensure they remain at the top.
“However, after getting what they needed, these people turn to say nasty things about those who had supported them,” he said when met after opening Volunteerism in Community Engagement programme in conjunction with Federal Territories Day.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said Kuok would not have made his fortune without various government policies that had become a key to his success.
Earlier political blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin had recently reported having claimed that Kuok harboured an agenda seeking to replace the current government with one led by DAP.
Tengku Adnan also said he was perplexed over why Kuok had allegedly chosen to put aside privileges accorded to the Malays and Bumiputera, who were the majority in the country and conspired with certain quarters to take over the government.
“I do not know why he (Kuok) wants to stir a sentiment and purportedly wants this country to be run by the Chinese. This can hurt the Malays and Bumiputera.
“He knows the Malaysian population statistics. Malays and Bumiputera are between 65 and 68 per cent, Chinese stands at more than 20 per cent and Indians are recorded at 7 per cent.
“We (the nation) are surviving because of unity and we do celebrate diversity. We (BN) take care the interest of all races, regardless whether they are Malays, Chinese, Indians, Kadazans, and even Ibans.”
