'Titiwangsa electorate should not waste votes on nomad candidates'

KUALA LUMPUR: Titiwangsa voters must elect a representative who would fight for them, not someone who simply wants to be on the national stage.

Titiwangsa Umno chief, Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, said the “nomad” tactic is a common practice for the opposition party.

He said that voters should reject those who contest in a constituency, but never show their faces to the electorate after winning.

“We see them contesting in Lembah Pantai, but suddenly, (in the 14th general election, they switch to) Permatang Pauh.

“It would be a waste to vote for such candidates.

“The people evaluate candidates and parties… and elect representatives… to represent them at the national level.

“So in Titiwangsa, I did not bring all my protocols as the Second Finance Minister because I am the elected representative of the people in this area,” he said before presenting the Grant Komuniti Penduduk 1Malaysia to the residents’ association at the Taman Maluri community hall today.

He said Barisan Nasional chooses candidates who have proven (themselves) by performing well in their constituencies.

“I have been the representative for Titiwangsa for five years, and the service centre that I established here has been open since 2010 for the people here.

“Hence, Titiwangsa voters should choose their representatives wisely without being influenced by sentiment or emotion,” he added.

Johari was nominated for the second time to represent BN in the coming election on May 9.
