SELAYANG: Puncak Niaga Holdings Bhd predicts a continuous water crisis for the people of Selangor if the state remains governed by PKR.
Puncak Niaga Strategic Source and Human Relations executive director, Professor Datuk Dr Mohd Zainul Fithri Datuk Othman said no discussions have been made between Puncak Niaga and the state government to resolve the water crisis.
“Instead, in a video made viral last week, PKR deputy president, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, claimed Puncak Niaga had deceived people by profiting from an increase in water tariffs.
“He made baseless allegations on the issue in his GE14 political campaign to woo people into believing him. Rather than prioritising issues of the people, he politicises the water issue for his own political needs.
“The lies he told included claims that under the water concession agreement signed by the state government and Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) in 2004, Syabas was given the right to increase water tariffs every three years. This is absolutely false,” he said at a press conference here, today.
Zainul said, any appeal made by Syabas to increase water tariffs were shot down by the Selangor government.
“He claimed that water tariffs in 2018 would be increased to RM3.20, higher than even the price of petrol. His statements are aimed at confusing people and what he alleges is not true.
“He also claimed that ever since PKR governed the state Selangor has never gone through a water crisis, even though millions of people have suffered.
“Azmin keeps on saying that the water level at the state dam is at an optimum level but people use treated water and not otherwise. If he wants to drink untreated water, be my guest,” he said.
He said under PKR, there had been countless water issues including burst pipes and dirt and low pressure in treated water.
“A lot of housing areas couldn’t be developed properly because there was not enough clean, treated water.
“Because of all these allegations used in his political schemes, we are discussing with our lawyers to bring him to court for tarnishing the image of Puncak Niaga,” he said.
