PKR's Latheefa Koya faces disciplinary action for allegation of cronyism in party

PETALING JAYA: PKR Central committee member Latheefa Koya is now facing disciplinary action following her allegation of cronyism in the recent appointment of party state leaders by president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The disciplinary complaint was submitted by Klang division chief Mohd Farazi Mohd Shah and Indera Mahkota division vice chief Kamarul Hatta Mohamed Ali at PKR headquarters here today.

Mohd Farazi said the allegation by Latheefa who described the party president as practising cronyism and nepotism was slanderous.

“We are of the opinion that the statement was slanderous; an attempt to tarnish the party image and is in violation of its discipline.

“According to the party constitution, the state leadership council chairmen must be appointed by the party president after due consultation with leaders of each division in the respective states.

“In line with Article 41.2 (under) Part XI of the party constitution, we hereby submit a written complaint on the misconduct (of Latheefa) to the Disciplinary Board,” he told a Press conference before submitting the document to representative of the board.

Also present were PKR Central Wanita exco member S. Thilagavaty who is also Kuala Langat division Wanita chief and 30 state division leaders.

Thilagavaty said the decisions made by the party president were based on democratic values and party constitution.

Latheefa, who is also a lawyer, in a recent statement alleged that the recent appointments of the party state leaders were “disturbing and a cause for grave concern”.

She had said the appointed state leadership council chairmen, except Sarawak and Selangor, were known to be aligned to one of the two main factions in PKR.

“Why the heavy imbalance favouring one faction?

“Appointments favouring one particular faction are tantamount to cronyism, which is anathema to any reform party,” she was quoted as saying.

She claimed that state leaders for Johor, Negri Sembilan and Selangor were selected by the president although the majority of the division chiefs supported different candidates.
