LIPIS: Pakatan Harapan(PH) will be able to provide value-added services if their candidate secures victory in the Cameron Highlands by-election on Jan 26 compared to their Barisan Nasional(BN) counterpart.
DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said if BN won the parliamentary seat, its candidate Ramli Mat Noor will not be able to contribute anything to the constituency and the development in the hill station will be left stunted.
He said PH hopes that the voters will give them and its candidate M. Manogaran an opportunity to help develop Cameron Highlands where they will ensure that people from all races will enjoy the benefits and various development.
"Since BN won on May 9 (14th General Election), there has been no changes...everything is the same and if PH wins the by-election then the people here are assured a new lease of life. PH can provide value-added (services) that BN cannot offer.
"Voters here have a state government represented by BN so why not vote the PH-led federal government's as the member of parliament. Then both the federal and state government can work together to develop Cameron Highlands," he said when met during a walkabout session at Sungai Koyan night market here today.
Present was Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) president Mohamad Sabu, PH's Jelai coordinator Young Syefura Othman and PH candidate M. Manogaran.
Lim, who is also the Finance Minister, said voting for PH will see rapid development in Cameron Highlands and if they fail to keep to their promises, then voters can vote PH out in the 15th general election.
He said BN has been claiming that they are potential winners in the by-election but the question is what can they offer if they win the by-election.
"We hope voters will make a wise decision on polling day....voters might not have supported the opposition for 61 years but now is the time to change (ubah). The country has "ubah" on May 9 last year but Cameron Highlands did not change and now the time has arrived," he said.
Lim when asked if the party had imposed a gag-order on Manogaran during the campaign said he was surprised by the allegations and it was the first time he was hearing such statements.
Lim said despite the stiff contest in the by-election, he believes that PH has an opportunity to emerge victorious in the polls.
