MELAKA: In a congress meant for PKR Youth delegates and their invitees, a group of seemingly juvenile “members” took it upon themselves to occupy a portion of the seats at the back of the packed hall, where the PKR Youth wing meet was taking place.
Some 200 of them were seated in a cordoned-off area in Ballroom Klasik here at the Melaka International Trade Centre, clad in black T-shirts stamped with the PKR logo.
They told the New Straits Times that they were not Youth member delegates or invited guests.
Youth chief Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir, when quizzed on the matter, told reporters that he did not know the identity of the group.
“I don’t know who they are. I have been sitting there (on the stage) since the beginning of the congress.
“(But) only legitimate delegates are allowed in the hall.”
Asked whether those in black T-shirts were delegates, Akmal said: “I don’t know. I have to check.
“We have many kinds of uniforms.
“Some wear baju Melayu, some divisions have their own uniforms.”
The group was involved in a brawl, barely two hours after the first punch-up between warring factions at 10am.
The second incident took place outside MITC where at least two wing congress observers were accosted, punched and almost wrestled to the ground.
Akmal said he was notified of the scuffle, and said he would leave it to police to investigate.
“We have to protect the good name of the party and our manners.
“Just as our president, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, said, if there are any attempts to sabotage the party, we will not hesitate to take action,” he added.
