PETALING JAYA: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) has decided that all top posts - including that of the president - will be contested during the next party election.
Party Election Committee chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar said elections for the Supreme Leadership Council would be conducted on April 4 with results expected to be announced the same day.
“Vote tallying will be done on the day itself, so nobody can accuse us of cheating or trying to change the results. We will make the announcement of the new leadership lineup immediately after.
“On June 20, the new leadership will meet to discuss the party’s direction,” he said at a press conference after chairing the party's election committee meeting, here, today.
After celebrating its third anniversary on Sept 8 last year, Bersatu’s inaugural election process would begin with branch-level meetings which must be convened between Jan 25 and March 1.
A total of 377,057 party members are eligible to participate in the party polls, with 2,946 branches conducting meetings.
Syed Hamid said 70 party officials would oversee the election, with the help of 825 others to ensure a smooth democratic process.
He added that those who intend to contest for posts are required to submit their nomination forms by Jan 13.
“For branch-level posts, voting will be conducted through a show of hands, while division-level posts will be based on secret ballot.”
