'Pas no help to BN in Kimanis by-election'

MEMBAKUT: Pas is not going to be able to help Barisan Nasional (BN) win the Kimanis by-election.

Angkatan Wanita Amanah Negara (Awan) Nasional chief Senator Aiman Athirah Al-Jundi said Pas was irrelevant in Sabah and Sarawak.

Instead of helping in the campaign, she said, Pas could only disrupt the existing harmony in both states.

Aiman Athirah, who has been a Pas member for 20 years, said the Islamic party only promoted hatred towards other races and religions.

She stressed that this kind of attitude would not sit well in Sabah with its diverse cultures.

“When there is a party that brings up racial and religious issues, it is definitely not suitable for this state,” she said at the launch of a sewing workshop in Kampung Sri Serbang, here, today.

“Sabah is unique. When a non-Muslim Kadazandusun Murut converts, it’s just one person who becomes a Muslim.

“His family members are still non-Muslims.”

Aiman said BN had the chance to defend the rights of Sabahans and Sarawakians in accordance with the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), but the coalition did not do so.

Yesterday, BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had sworn to restore all of Sabah’s rights as enshrined in MA63 should the coalition become the government again.

“Do not be fooled by them,” said Aiman.

“We are on the right track with a new and fresh political party.

“People will not simply want to change the government because of a minor mistake.

“Give Parti Warisan Sabah a chance (to win in the Kimanis by-election).”

She said Parti Amanah Negara was tasked with providing assistance at three district polling centres that had about 3,000 voters.
