KUALA LUMPUR: Several members of Parliament are expected to have an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at Istana Negara, here, this morning.
This is believed to be for the purpose of stating where they stand in an effort to form a new federal government following the resignation of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister yesterday and the dissolution of the Cabinet.
They will be meeting the King in stages, with the first group made up of MPs from Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) as well as MPs from Peninsular Malaysia at 11am.
The second group will involve MPs from Sabah and Sarawak at 2pm.
Al-Sultan Abdullah yesterday cancelled the appointments of all ministers on the advice of the prime minister, in accordance with Article (43)(5) of the Federal Constitution.
The King also appointed Dr Mahathir as interim PM, pending the appointment of a new prime minister.
