Amanah will not support 2021 Budget, says Mat Sabu

KOTA BARU: All 11 Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) members of parliament will not support the 2021 Budget, said Amanah president Mohamad Sabu.

He said the party would only support the Budget if several conditions requested by opposition chief and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim were met.

"Umno has also called for amendments to be made in the Budget as a condition for its support. So Amanah is with Pakatan Harapan (in not supporting the Budget).

"We will only give our support if all the requests made by Anwar as the opposition leader are fulfilled.

"Amanah will follow whatever stance adopted by Pakatan Harapan," he told reporters after launching the Kelantan Amanah convention here today.

Mohamad also noted that Anwar had already stated PH's stand on meeting the needs of the people during the Covid-29 pandemic as well as other issues which need to be amended.

"This includes the extension of the moratorium on bank loans as well as the RM85.5 million allocation to re-introduce the Special Affairs Department (JASA)," he said.

Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah, in the run-up to the tabling of the 2021 Budget last week, had cautioned MPs against trying to derail the budget, saying the financial allocations were crucial in efforts to restore the economy ravaged by the Covid-19 pandemic.

He issued the reminder after refusing to invoke his constitutional powers to declare a state of emergency in order to prevent possible snap polls in the event that the budget is shot down.
