No condition to appoint Rungkup assemblyman as Perak MB

IPOH: No condition has been set by Perak Parti Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) in exchange for its continued support of Perikatan Nasional (PN).

A source from Perak Bersatu told the New Straits Times the party did not set any terms, including that Rungkup assemblyman Datuk Shahrul Zaman Yahya be made the menteri besar.

"No. No syarat (condition)," the source briefly replied when contacted via WhatsApp message today.

Meanwhile, Perak Bersatu will continue to work with Umno to form a new state government, said former menteri besar, Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said, adding the party was always ready.

"We are working with Umno and other parties in the federal and many states. Perak Bersatu will work for the rakyat with any party (including Umno) for that purpose (to form a new state government)," he said.

The Perak state assembly consists of 59 assemblymen and the support of 30 assemblymen is required to secure a simple majority.asTo date, Umno has 25 seats, Bersatu (5), Pas (3), DAP (16), Amanah (5), PKR (3), Gerakan (1) and one Independent.

It was reported by a portal today, quoting a source close to Ahmad Faizal that the PN coalition was ready to cooperate with Umno as long as Shahrul Zaman is appointed as the menteri besar.

According to the portal, the source said Perak PN was disappointed and believed that Perak Umno chairman, Datuk Saarani Mohamad was the mastermind behind the motion of confidence to oust Ahmad Faizal.

Earlier, Shahrul announced that Perak Umno had named Saarani as its candidate to be the 14th Perak Menteri Besar.

Shahrul who announced this on his Facebook urged the public not to speculate on the matter and allow the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, to make his decision on the vacant Perak Menteri Besar post.

Yesterday, Umno President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he did not rule out the possibility of a new coalition forming the Perak state government.
