Umno Youth backs party's move to reject cooperation with Bersatu in GE15

BATU PAHAT: Umno Youth has backed the party's Supreme Council's decision to reject cooperation with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) in the 15th General Election (GE15).

The movement's chief, Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, said the current cooperation with Perikatan Nasional (PN) was to form the government of the day and not a political cooperation with Bersatu.

"Umno has never agreed to be involved as one of the component parties (in PN), but only as a component in the PN government.

"That is why our stand has been consistent from the beginning until now and Umno will support the government until the next GE," he said at a press conference after launching the "I Want the Covid-19 Vaccine" awareness campaign in Parit Sulong, near here, today.

Asyraf Wajdi said Umno Youth has always been focused on ensuring that it does not get involved in any political unrest initiated by those who want to see the party weak.

"Even before, Umno has never had clusters (factions) as differences of opinion are common and we do not have (opinions) in only one way.

"Umno's strength is that when we make a decision, it is not decided by an individual, even the (party) president cannot decide the party's policy as it is done so in a collective manner."

Asyraf Wajdi said if voices are saying that certain quarters are violating the party's stand, it is the stand of the individual and cannot be the stand of the party.

He also said that there is no issue of Umno wanting to part with PAS because both parties had signed the Muafakat Nasional (MN) charter.

"It is just a perception of the enemy seeking to undermine the party's solidarity.

"Many are jealous of Umno's previous record of successfully creating stability, prosperity and harmony for the people over the past 61 years," he said.
