IPOH: Titi Serong assemblyman Hasnul Zulkarnain Abd Munaim has been sacked from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).
This was confirmed by Perak Bersatu secretary Datuk Zainol Fadzi when contacted today.
Hasnul was sacked from the party following the Dec 4 state assembly sitting last year which led to the ouster of Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu as the menteri besar.
It is understood that Hasnul was the only assemblyman who abstained from voting during the vote of confidence process.
In the motion of confidence, Faizal failed to rouse enough support from the assemblymen. Only 10 out of 59 assemblymen backed the motion during the 14th state legislative assembly sitting.
A total of 48 others voted against it while there was one spoiled vote.
Hasnul, when contacted, said he only learnt of his sacking after reading news reports.
"I accept the matter and I will not appeal," he said, adding that he is now an independent assemblyman.
Hasnul said he has no plans to join any other party at the moment, including PKR.
"At this moment, I am an Independent assemblyman and I have no plan to join any parties," he said.
News portals had quoted a source from Perak PKR as saying that Hasnul had met several PKR leaders and expressed his wish to join the party.
Meanwhile, Perak PKR chairman Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak said the party would not be accepting him if he applied.
"I am not aware of him meeting Perak PKR. We don't accept traitors," he replied when asked.
Hasnul joined Bersatu on June 3, 2020. He was a member of Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) but left the party on March 9 last year to become an independent following the political realignment that led to a new Perikatan Nasional state government being formed.
