KUALA LUMPUR: Given the excessive politicking and uncertainty over what life will be like in the next few months, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the people's anger toward the government is justified.
He said the spike in the number of daily Covid-19 cases since the state of emergency was declared was not helping either, adding that coordination among all ministries was extremely important to ensure the country's success in its fight against the pandemic.
"The people is suffering and it is justified that they feel angry. I see that the government has ideas (on tackling issues at hand) but if you don't know how to execute the plans then you will not see any result.
"Too many politics are involved and there is no coordination among the ministers. This is a serious crisis.
"You need experience to tackle a crisis like this," he said during an interview with comedian Harith Iskander aired live on his Facebook page.
When pointed out by Harith that some of the current cabinet ministers were experienced members from the previous governments, Dr Mahathir claimed they were now more focused on politics.
"The problem is, they are focused on politics. They think about who's going to be the prime minister (and) who's going to do vote of no confidence instead of talking about the people's suffering.
"There is no focus and they don't try to get good advice from the professionals and this is why there are no solutions," he said.
Asked on what he has on mind in getting Malaysia out of the current health and economic crises, Dr Mahathir pointed to his recent proposal for the National Operations Council (NOC) to be formed.
He said with NOC, members of the council would be able to resolve the crises without having to get involved in political games.
"If I am involved in any way (in NOC), I will resign from Parti Pejuang (Tanah Air).
"I would like to give my full efforts to resolving Covid-19 crisis full time. Pejuang will carry on."
