MELAKA: Barisan Nasional (BN) has secured itself 21 out of the 28 seats in the Melaka election, and was officially declared the winner of the 15th state election.
The latest and final seat was Pengkalan Batu where BN's candidate Datuk Kalsom Nordin who garnered 4,839 votes defeated DAP's Muhammad Danish Zainuddin by a slim majority. Muhammad Danish managed to secure 4,708 votes.
Election Commission chairman Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh said Perikatan Nasional (PN) won two seats and Pakatan Harapan (PH) won five. Parties Putra and Iman did not win any.
Both of PN's seats were won by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu). As for PH, DAP secured four seats for the coalition while Amanah won one.
PKR, who contested under the PH banner, and PAS who contested under the PN banner, did not manage to win any of the seats it contested.
BN won in Kuala Linggi, Tanjung Bidara, Ayer Limau, Lendu, Taboh Naning, Rembia, Gadek, Machap Jaya, Durian Tunggal, Asahan, Pantai Kundor, Paya Rumput, Kelebang, Pengkalan Batu, Ayer Molek, Duyong, Telok Mas, Rim, Serkam, Merlimau and Sungai Rambai.
PH won Ayer Keroh, Bukit Katil, Kesidang, Kota Laksamana, Bandar Hilir; PN won Sungai Udang and Bemban.
Abdul Ghani also said 326,068 voters including early and postal voters cast their ballots today.
"Total voter turnout was 65.85 per cent. The EC is satisfied with the implementation of the voting process and all went according to plan," he said tonight.
