PETALING JAYA: A move to oust Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi from his post involving other top party leaders was initiated in May 2020.
Among those who were allegedly involved in the discussion to oust the Bagan Datuk member of parliament (MP), Pasir Salak MP Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman claimed, included Barisan Nasional (BN) advisory council chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
Tajuddin said the discussion also involved a move to submit a memorandum urging Zahid to step down as the party president.
The discussion took place at his residence in Bukit Damansara, said the Malaysian ambassador designate to Indonesia.
"The movement was derailed when some leaders backed down at the very last minute," he said in a tell-all press conference here today.
At the press conference, he shared a copy of a photograph of the said meeting involving Umno leaders.
Tajuddin also claimed that he had proof involving several Umno leaders signing a statutory declaration (SD) last year to back opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the next prime minister on the insistence of Zahid.
