Muhyiddin to quit politics after GE15 [NSTTV]

KUALA TERENGGANU: The 15th General Election (GE15) would be the last for Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as a politician.

He said once that term ends, he would retire from the political arena to spend time with his family.

The former prime minister did not discount the possibility of him being nominated as a candidate, if the party decides to field him.

"In GE15, insya-Allah (God willing) if the party allows, I will contest. It seems from the applause earlier that I can, if I am healthy ... I used to have cancer.

"All your prayers for my good health have been answered by God. If I were to kick a ball, I can, but not too far. I can still hit a golf ball as far as 200 metres, so that means I'm still okay.

"But that would be it (for me) for politics. (GE15) may be my last term, after that I will rest at home with my wife, my eight grandchildren and my children," he said during a National Recovery Council (NRC) dialogue session with the youth here this evening.

Muhyiddin, 75, who is also NRC chairman, was sworn in as the country's eighth prime minister on March 1 after the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government.

However, just 17 months later, he was forced to step down on Aug 16, 2021, when he lost the majority support of the members of Parliament.

In GE14, Muhyiddin contested in the Pagoh Parliamentary seat on the PH ticket and won with a majority of 6,927 votes.
