PUTRAJAYA: Perikatan Nasional (PN) component parties have been reminded to avoid issuing conflicting statements and move together in the same team.
Its chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin also reminded component parties in the political pact that Barisan Nasional (BN) was PN's main enemy during the 15th General Election (GE15).
Speaking at the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's (Bersatu) 6th anniversary today, Muhyiddin said the matter has been agreed upon by all component parties in PN.
"If we fail to display unity, we risk losing (the election) since the message relayed to ground is unclear on who is our (political) enemy.
"In PN, we have reached a consensus. I would like to state here that among the matters that have been agreed (among all component parties in PN) is that BN is our main enemy," Muhyiddin, who is also the Bersatu president, said.
Present were Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu and Gerakan president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau.
Muhyiddin's statement, however, goes against the statement issued by Pas secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan early this week.
In the statement dated Sept 20, Takiyuddin had said Pakatan Harapan (PH) alongside its allies under their "big tent" strategy is the actual enemy towards the Penyatuan Ummah (People's Unity) efforts.
Takiyuddin had said that Pas did not agree with any decision or stance which suggested that BN is the political enemy of the party during GE15.
Pas is also in a political alliance with Umno under the Muafakat Nasional that was formed in 2019 although the former is a component party in PN.
When asked on Takiyuddin's statement on the matter, Muhyiddin responded that the matter did not arise.
"Pas maybe issued such a statement since there is no election (around the corner).
"At the moment, all component parties (in PN) have some 'freedom' on ways they should operate.
"However, when the election is getting nearer, we will have unanimous decision (among all component parties in PN)," he said.
On other matters, Muhyiddin said negotiation on seat distribution among component parties in PN for GE15 was still ongoing.
